Can You Transfer Fat from Your Stomach to Your Buttocks?
Many individuals are dissatisfied with the way their bodies naturally distribute fat. For example, those who carry the majority of their weight in their abdomen often desire a more balanced figure – that is to say, one in which fat is pronounced less in the stomach and more in the buttocks. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Joseph DiBello, MD can help eligible patients achieve this aesthetic with a Brazilian butt lift.
Also referred to as “BBL” or “gluteal fat grafting,” a Brazilian butt lift begins with the removal of fat from a donor area. While the fat can be extracted from the thighs, lower back, hips, or elsewhere, the abdomen is an especially popular choice for many patients. After the fat is removed via liposuction and processed for safety, it is injected into the buttocks to add volume and shape.
The Brazilian butt lift is one of the most common examples of surgical fat transfer. Although gluteal implants were once the standard surgical method for enhancing the buttocks, Dr. DiBello’s patients have seen more favorable results with the Brazilian butt lift. This is typically because the use of a patient’s own fat holds a number of advantages over the placement of gluteal implants. These benefits include a generally more subtle, natural-looking contour with results that can last significantly longer than those provided by implants. Fat transfer also provides patients with the opportunity to remove unwanted fat from donor areas, a bonus not available with traditional buttock implants.
