Is There a “Mini” Brow Lift Procedure?
Either because of heredity, age, or a combination of both, you may be troubled by loose or sagging skin on the outer part of the eyes with a flattening of the tail of the eyebrow. Here at DiBello Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeon, Joseph DiBello, MD, F.A.C.S., frequently encounters clients (mostly women) who desire elevation of the lateral – or outer – part of the eyebrow. Although the ideal female brow shape is subjective and changes over time, a mild lateral arching of the eyebrow is considered desirable and provides a younger perceived age among women. Younger individuals have significantly higher lateral eyebrows compared with the medial, or inner, eyebrows.
The mild drooping of the lateral brow can sometimes be addressed and improved with facial denervation injections such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport®; however, if the drooping is more significant or you’re looking for a longer-lasting elevation of the lateral brow, Dr. DiBello offers a lateral brow lift procedure. As opposed to an open, coronal brow lift or a less invasive endoscopic brow lift, which treats the entire forehead and brow, the lateral brow lift specifically addresses the outer portion of the lateral eyebrow. Accomplished using an incision made behind the hairline in the temple area, this procedure can reduce the excess sagging skin on the corner of the eye and conservatively elevate the lateral portion of the eyebrow to a more pleasant and youthful position. The surgery can generally be performed under local anesthesia in the office with minimal downtime.
For patients who suffer from hooding or sagging of the upper eyelid skin, Dr. DiBello also offers upper blepharoplasty for a more refreshing look. This procedure can be performed at the same time as the lateral brow lift, also under local anesthesia.
The lateral brow lift can be considered a “mini brow lift” and can provide conservative elevation of the lateral eyebrow resulting in an improved, more attractive brow shape. If you’re interested in determining whether or not you are a candidate for this procedure, please contact our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Joseph DiBello.
